Causes of back pain
Our back is composed of many structures like muscles, ligaments, discs, cartilages that work together to support our back and prevent any pain.
Back pain can result in problems in any of these structures. In some cases, the cause of back pain is often unclear.
Some causes of back pain are listed below.
Muscle or ligament strain
Do you know? Lifting heavy objects or lifting something in an inappropriate position can cause muscle and ligaments in the back to strain. It can even damage the disc.
Arthritis
Rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis of the hip, knee, or low back can also cause back pain, inflammation, and instability.
Arthritis causes the narrowing of space in the spinal cord called stenosis which leads to pain in the back.
Abnormal curves of the spine
Scoliosis can also be the cause of low back pain. In scoliosis, the spine is curved or twisted in an unusual way which puts strain on muscles in the back and causes pain.
Bulging disc
The Intervertebral disc acts as a cushion between the vertebra in the spine. The soft material in the disc can rupture and cause pressure on the nerves in the spine.
